Overview
Z5 — Violin Overdrive
The Z5 is a tape-tube hybrid violin overdrive engineered specifically for piezo-based violin (electric and acoustic). By fusing the smooth warmth of tape with the dynamics of tube circuitry, it delivers expressive harmonic drive while preserving the natural character of the violin. This design enhances and complements the violin’s natural tone and responsiveness, unlike guitar amplifiers or generic overdrive pedals.
Fully PA-ready, the Z5 completely eliminates the need for external analog gear like amps or cabinets, providing plug-and-play tone for stage or studio. Players can use it directly into PA systems, mixers, or monitors without sacrificing clarity, dynamics, or tonality.
Core controls — Drive and Lead Bias — allow precise shaping of saturation, articulation, and dynamic response. The Character switch selects between Vintage (warm, soft, and natural low-end) and Modern (tight, harmonically extended, fast) drive models.
The Z5 features a dedicated five-band EQ for precise tone-shaping that extends beyond what’s typically available in instrument overdrives. Each band is tuned to musically relevant frequency ranges for bowed strings, allowing precise control over body warmth, midrange focus, and high-end attack.
Onboard Impulse Response (IR) delivers a full-range, strings-optimized tonal response suited for hi-gain violin sound. Combined with high-impedance preamps optimized for both high- and low-capacitance piezo systems, along with a dedicated line input for active instruments or external effects the Z5 maintains proper impedance matching, natural frequency response, and consistent performance across setups.
With the Interface Lock system, players can store and recall knob settings instantly during a performance, while Edit mode allows selective unlocking of individual knobs for on-the-fly adjustments.
In short, the Z5 Violin Overdrive is a compact purpose-built overdrive platform for violin that fuses tape and tube technologies, replaces traditional guitar amplification methods, and provides expressive, plug-and-play hi-gain tone for professional performance and recording.
